Frequently Asked Questions About Yo-Yo Tricks

We recommend starting with a responsive yo-yo, which automatically returns to your hand with a tug. A great choice is the YoYoFactory Arrow.

How long does it take to learn yo-yo tricks? +

You can learn your first tricks within minutes. With regular practice, you can master a basic set of 33 tricks in a few weeks, while advanced combos may take months.

What's the difference between a responsive and an unresponsive yo-yo? +

A responsive yo-yo returns with a tug, making it ideal for beginners. An unresponsive yo-yo spins much longer but only returns using the Bind trick, making it better suited for advanced players.

How many yo-yo tricks are there? +

There are hundreds of named tricks and an endless number of original combinations. Here you'll find tutorials for more than 150 tricks, from beginner basics to competition-level combos.

Can I learn yo-yo tricks with any yo-yo? +

You can learn basic tricks with almost any yo-yo. However, advanced tricks require an unresponsive yo-yo with a ball bearing—traditional wooden yo-yos simply aren't designed for them.

What is the hardest yo-yo trick? +

There is no single answer—difficulty depends on the length, speed, and complexity of the combo. Many of the hardest tricks are signature competition tricks created by world champions.
