We recommend starting with a responsive yo-yo, which automatically returns to your hand with a tug. A great choice is the YoYoFactory Arrow.
You can learn your first tricks within minutes. With regular practice, you can master a basic set of 33 tricks in a few weeks, while advanced combos may take months.
A responsive yo-yo returns with a tug, making it ideal for beginners. An unresponsive yo-yo spins much longer but only returns using the Bind trick, making it better suited for advanced players.
There are hundreds of named tricks and an endless number of original combinations. Here you'll find tutorials for more than 150 tricks, from beginner basics to competition-level combos.
You can learn basic tricks with almost any yo-yo. However, advanced tricks require an unresponsive yo-yo with a ball bearing—traditional wooden yo-yos simply aren't designed for them.
There is no single answer—difficulty depends on the length, speed, and complexity of the combo. Many of the hardest tricks are signature competition tricks created by world champions.
