How to Practice Advanced Yo-Yo Combos

Here are a few tips to help you learn more advanced yo-yo combinations:

  • Learn each trick individually first, then start connecting them together.
  • Start slowly and focus mainly on clean execution.
  • Practice the transitions between tricks – they often determine whether a combo feels smooth and fluid.
  • If the string starts getting tangled, stop and untangle the yo-yo.
  • Keep the yo-yo moving and try to make the most of its spin.

Which Yo-Yo Should You Use for Advanced Combos?

For advanced tricks and combos, an unresponsive yo-yo is the best choice. Unlike beginner yo-yos, it won't return with a tug. Instead, it returns using the Bind trick. This allows it to spin for significantly longer and gives you enough time for more complex combinations.

Features of Unresponsive Yo-Yos

  • Long spin time (Sleeper)
  • Greater stability during complex tricks
  • Returns using the Bind trick
  • Ideal for advanced tricks and competition-style play
