Czech Yoyo Cup Brno: The Final Stop Before Nationals

The Final Stop Before the Czech Nationals

Brno's Industra hosted another stop of the Czech Yoyo Cup over the weekend. This time, the competition took place in a slightly different setting than usual, with the audience elevated above the competitors rather than the other way around. The event also attracted strong international competition, especially from Slovakia. It was the final cup event before the upcoming Czech Yoyo Nationals, so there was plenty to compete for.

Competing Right in Front of the Crowd

The café space at Industra offered a different experience from a traditional competition venue. There was no raised stage this time, so competitors performed their freestyle routines directly on the floor while the audience watched from elevated seating around them. This brought the crowd right up close to the action, allowing everyone to see every trick from just a few steps away.

Brno also welcomed a strong Slovak contingent, along with several yoyers from Hungary. And they certainly made their presence felt. Oliver Skačányi from Slovakia, the newest addition to the W1LD 2030 team, took the Junior division title. In the X division, Hungarian crowd favourite Attila Nagy claimed first place.

The Audience Award: When Showmanship Counts Too

One of the new features at the Brno contest was an Audience Award across all divisions. While the judges focus primarily on technical execution, difficulty and clean tricks, the audience could reward the performances they enjoyed most and that left the strongest impression.

In the X division, the audience agreed with the judges, and Attila Nagy took home the award, adding another trophy to his first-place finish. Among the juniors, Matyáš Rada won the crowd over. He finished third in the official results, taking home both a bronze medal and the Audience Award.

The most interesting moment came in the 1A Pro division, where the Audience Award ended in a tie. The award was shared by our host, Honza Matocha, who put down the microphone during the event and joined the competition himself, and Lukáš Matulník. Although Lukáš was disqualified in the official results due to his choice of music, his performance clearly made an impression on the crowd. Hopefully, next time he'll get the same reaction without the disqualification!

Michael Malík Keeps Up His Form and Wins the Final Battle

The 1A Pro division belonged to Michael Malík this weekend. Building on his result in Liberec, he claimed another gold medal and showed that he'll be one to watch at the upcoming Czech Nationals.

Brno also hosted the final battle round before the Nationals. The draw brought Michael Malík and Pavel Kucherov head-to-head. Their matchup had some history: Kucherov had knocked Malík out in the very first round at the beginning of the season. This time, however, Michael got his revenge and finished the final cup battle as the winner.
