Are you having issues with your Nine Dragons yoyo? Is the bearing not spinning properly or is your yoyo making unusually loud noises? In most cases, the problem is caused by a dirty bearing that simply needs to be cleaned.
The Nine Dragons is a little different from regular yoyos because it uses three bearings – one main bearing and two side bearings inside the special Dragon Caps.
If the yoyo starts returning with a tug, the main bearing is most likely dirty (the bearing where the string is attached).
If the side Dragon Caps stop spinning freely, try spinning them by hand. They should normally spin for around 10 seconds or longer. If they stop much sooner, one of the side bearings will probably need cleaning.
Sometimes the yoyo can also start making noticeably louder sounds. Cleaning the bearings can help in this case as well. Keep in mind that the Nine Dragons is naturally louder than regular yoyos due to its multiple bearing design, and a slight humming sound is completely normal.
Accessing the main bearing is quite simple. Place your palms on both metal parts of the yoyo and twist them in opposite directions. The thread will loosen, the yoyo will unscrew, and you will gain access to the main bearing.
If you need to reach the side bearings, you will also need to remove the plastic Dragon Caps. If they do not come off easily, you can use the axle to help remove them. A detailed explanation can be found in the video above.
Follow these steps when cleaning the bearing:
Once the problematic bearing has been cleaned, reassemble your yoyo and test it. In most cases, this will restore the proper function of your Nine Dragons.
You can find a detailed tutorial in the video above, where Ann Bubak shows the entire process step by step. If you still have any questions, let us know and we will be happy to help. 🙂
